A few days back I wrote an entry about some useful tools I found while reading one of the many graphic design blogs that I’m subscribed to through Bloglines. On it I mention a tool for helping you to pick a font to use in your work. Even though I’ve used the website on various occasions since I found it, I’ve noticed a problem. I have 100+ fonts installed on my PC, but the website only gives me 57 fonts for previewing. I would have to manually enter the names of the missing fonts so that the program remembers and displays them. Me being the lazy person that I am when it comes to manually inputting hundreds of font names, I went on a search of a similar tool that would read all my fonts.
Font Picker by Richard’s Projects
This tool works great. It reads all my fonts and gives me the opportunity to sample the exact text that I’m looking to use in my design. The results are given in a long list with a scroll bar. You can also download the application with Adobe Air. Truly awesome.

Orange Tree Farms is a supplier of oranges for other local business. (Any similarities to companies or businesses that exist or once existed is purely coincidental. I did not research any institution. I came up with these names myself.)

I’ve decided to practice creating logos and posting them here as examples of my work. I’ll create some fictitious companies/businesses and give them a purpose. (Any similarities to companies or businesses that exist or once existed is purely coincidental. I did not research any institution. I came up with these names myself.)
Green City is a non-profit organization dedicated to planting trees in big cities around the United States. Their goal is to improve the air quality of the city while beautifying it.

This week you’re going to work on creating logos for a start-up company specializing in selling backpacks. They want you to come up with three different logos using only the colors red and black. The name of the company is Trendy-Pack.

I’ve updated the look of the Land section of the Invest in Puerto Rico website. Now it loads faster, has a clean uniform feel and no JavaScript. Take a look.

I came across a list of these cool tools while I was reading the Smash!ngapps blog. Here are the ones I found the most useful and would like to share with you. (You can checkout the rest of the list on their blog)
ViewLikeUs
Ever wonder what your website looks like in different resolutions? Don’t own multiple computers to check them all? I found this website very useful. I personally have one laptop and I don’t own an iPhone, so I can’t check what my website looks like on that tiny screen.
Flipping Typical
I spend a lot of time trying to match the perfect font to the design. This website allows me to see what the type looks like in different fonts (that are on my PC) at once. I love it! Sometimes it’s hard for me to judge from the ‘Sample’ that Photoshop provides and it’s time consumming to be changing fonts over and over. I will definitely use this site a lot.

Writing:
Write a 500 – 1000 word minimum story from the following sentences.
“The heat was so intense. The pavement was scorching, the very atmosphere was blazing and the only cool breeze came from a small, beat down, electric fan precariously balanced on top of a heap of books stacked on top of a desk.”
Design:
I am extremely tired and feeling lazy today. I guess it’s all in preparation for August 10, which is Lazy Day! Create a design around this theme that could easily fit a button/sticker. Here is the catch: your design must incorporate a pineapple in some way.
Have fun!

So what happened to the Monday challenges you ask? Are they over? No, the Monday challenges are not over. They are just taking a forced-break. I recently moved and I’m still waiting for my new apartment to get Internet. I promise to keep posting challenges! Thanks for your patience!
